Diabetes And Cinnamo - Is Cinnamo A Cure For Diabetes?

What is cinnamo?

What is the link between cinnamon and diabetes? Is there any? Cinnamo is another word for cinnamon or at least a very common misspelling of cinnamon. Cinnamon is one of the world’s most popular spices. But cinnamon has been used for a lot more than cinnamon toast and flavored coffee.

Cinnamo has been used as an herbal medicine for millennia.

It has one of the oldest histories of herbal medicines. There are Chinese texts that use cinnamo as an ingredient in herbal remedies from 4000 years ago.

Cinnamon or cinnamo comes from the cinnamon tree.

The cinnamon tree’s inner bark is sometimes used and is sold in pieces or the bark is crushed and sold as a powder. Also, the cinnamon tree’s essential oil is also sold as an herbal medicine.

The German government allows the use of cinnamon for appetite loss and indigestion.

It is said the evidence supporting this may not be very scientific though. Cinnamo may have anti fungal properties. There is some evidence that it may help with stomach ulcers. There are some indications that cinnamo may have antiallergenic properties also.

What about cinnamo and diabetes?

Can eating cinnamo cure diabetes? A study from the US Department of Agriculture indicated that half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day reduced blood sugar levels. The effect can be produced just by soaking a stick of cinnamo in your tea. The study found that the active ingredient was not in cinnamon oils but shows up in powder and sticks of cinnamon.

Cinnamo seems to act similar to insulin and can help the activity of insulin.

This looks like it could be a big help to those with type 2 diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, the cells of the body have become resistant to insulin. Cinnamon lowers the blood glucose levels.

So cinnamon and diabetes, are they a match?

This is one of those studies that do not seem to be arguable. Everyone in the study experienced lower blood glucose levels so matter what dose they were given. While doing research for this article I found numerous diabetics that recorded the effect of taking cinnamo on blood glucose levels. Cinnamo does help.

Is cinnamo a cure for diabetes?

It would be irresponsible to say that. If you have diabetes and take cinnamon to help, make sure you watch your glucose levels. You may have to lower your medication. Work with your doctor if you think you want to change your medication.

If you do not have diabetes, cinnamo may be able to help lower risk by lowering you blood glucose levels.

There are definite health benefits to adding cinnamon to your daily diet. Extreme doses are not necessary. Adding cinnamo to your diet in cooking or a stick in a cup of tea or coffee can be enough. If you do not like cinnamon, there are cinnamon pills that you can take. Make sure you are getting a proper dose in the pills you decide on and that they do contain cinnamon, not something else.

Do not just rely on cinnamon for diabetes treatment or prevention.

Losing excess weight is also important. There is no doubt that exercise and a good diet reduce your risk of diabetes. Adding cinnamo to your diet will help.

Cinnamo and diabetes or cinnamon and diabetes, no matter how you spell it, it is something that should be considered by anyone at risk of diabetes.
