Risk Factors and Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes
In America, over 60 million people have insulin resistance or are affected by it.
One out of four people with insulin resistance may develop Type 2 Diabetes. That is 15 million people that need to watch for diabetes symptoms. Are you one of them?
Research has still not found the complete cause of Type 2 Diabetes or insulin resistance.
When you develop insulin resistance, your body fails to respond in a proper way to the insulin that your pancreas is already producing. As cells throughout your body become resistant to the insulin manufactured by the pancreas, it becomes more difficult for glucose (sugar) to enter your body’s cells, this causes high glucose levels in your bloodstream.
Some factors that may raise your risk for Type 2 Diabetes:
- Your family has a history of diabetes
- You do not exercise much or have the opportunity to exercise
- You are overweight
- Your risk increases as you age – being over 40 is a risk factor
- Your race may make you risk of Type 2 diabetes greater (If you are Black, Hispanic, or American Indian you have a higher risk)
You should always be aware of these symptoms of diabetes
- Always Thirsty
- Excessive or Frequent Urination
- Always Hungry
- Sudden Unexplained Weight Loss
- Sores or Cuts That Heal Slow

- You are more likely to suffer a stroke
- You are susceptible to kidney disease
- Many diabetes victims have eye problems that lead to blindness
- Some diabetes patients eventually have limbs amputated
For some, the occurence of the above health problems are the time they first become aware they have diabetes. Being unaware of the earlier symptoms has cause may to be affected by blindness and limb amputation. The other health problems above have even more serious consequences (like death).
WHO (the World Health Organization) has stated that there is an apparent epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes.
WHO believes that it is strongly related to lifestyle and economic change. Over the next 10 years it is believed that the number of diabetics will increase to over 200 million, maybe even 250 million. The law of averages means that you or someone you know and care about may already have Type 2 Diabetes.
If you are aging, not eating properly, not getting enough exercise, and are overweight you may already be developing Type 2 Diabetes.
While risks increase with age for Type 2 Diabetes, it can occur at any age. Even children are becoming more likely to develop type 2 diabetes, something that was rare a few years ago. Early detection and intervention are essential to the control and prevention of complications.

Stop it early and enjoy life.
