Signs and Symptoms of Diabetes

Two Different Types of Diabetes

There are two different types of diabetes.

Type I Diabetes Mellitus is juvenile or insulin – dependent diabetes.

In Type I Diabetes, the pancreas is unable to produce insulin. It (you may have guessed) usually diagnosed in children or young adults. Victims of Type I Diabetes need daily insulin injections.

Type II Diabetes is adult-onset or non insulin – dependent diabetes.

In Type II Diabetes, the body tissues have become resistant to insulin. It is more common to find as people get older. Type II Diabetes is usually hereditary but lifestyle and diet choices also have an affect.

While it used to be called adult-onset diabetes, more and more type 2 diabetes is becoming a problem for children also.

Diabetes causes problems with the way your body handles food. Your body will not be able to handle fats, proteins, and carbohydrates properly. Diabetics have a high blood sugar level. Normally the blood sugar level is regulated by insulin a hormone produced by your pancreas and depends on your eating habits.

Your lifestyle can make a big difference. Being overweight can lead to a real increase in your likelyhood to develop type 2 diabetes. In fact, studies searching for a cure have shown promise in mice that were not obese. Often, those who are disposed to diabetes may have a problem with craving sugary foods or foods that contain refined flours. Just the types of foods that will increase your chances of having diabetes.

If diabetes is not treated there are many serious medical complications which can occur such damage to kidneys, nerve damage, heart disease, and hypoglycemia (low levels of glucose).

Diabetes is a serious disease that has no cure. The good news is that it can often be controlled with a health lifestyle and a proper diabetic diet plan. There are also some promising studies that may someday have a cure.

The symptoms of diabetes to watch out for are: excessive urination, extreme thirst and hunger, blurred vision, dry skin, and slow healing wounds and repeated infections, and fatigue and headache.

While the above symptoms of diabetes can be due to other causes, it is best to see a doctor quickly if you spot two or more of them. Early detection can make a big difference down the road.
